Course objectives
Ability to play in a bigger band with respect to sound integrity and intonational precision. Staging simpler big band arrangements
Syllabus
  • Familiarization with orchestral interpretation, listening to big band play at different times, to work with a rhythm section in a big body. Conductor and its interaction with the body during rehearsals and the concert. Individual brass section of the orchestra and their functions. The interplay between sections, work with tuning and dynamics, communication between the leader of the section and its members. The role of soloist and its coordination with the orchestra. Staging less complex swing and bopových arrangements. Interpretation of compositions and arrangements of experienced arrangers such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Sammy Nestico and Bob Mintzer.
