Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the specifics of performing arts.
Learning outcomes
The student will understand the essence, meaning and social impact of theatrical work in the broader cultural context and in touch with other artistic disciplines. Student will be oriented on broader backgrounds beyond the field of study.

  • Theater as a tool for exploring and discovering possibilities hidden in human beings and in society.
  • The study of the theater as a path to knowledge and self-knowledge.
  • Conviction about the need and purpose of theater.
  • The formation of theater - imitation, ritual, the legacy of ancient theater.
  • Oriental theater culture.
  • American tradition of entertainment theater.
  • Theater as the social need of a person.
  • Primary aesthetic and other theater functions.
  • Theater as a moral institution (Schiller).
  • Theater as a significant phenomenon in the history of the Czech nation.
  • Trends of contemporary theater and the transformation of the hierarchy of its dominant components.

Teaching methods
Regular lessons that combine lectures and seminars Number of hours of contact instruction per week: 2 Number of hours of individual work of a student per week: 2 Seminars include dialogic debates on art with the use of autopsy of students, a joint visit to the exhibition of fine arts, meetings with creative artistic personalities.
