Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with an insight into the psychology of development for the purposes of their own practice. The course in developmental psychology offers an overview of the specific characteristics of psychological development in all periods (child psychology, adult psychology, gerontopsychology).
Learning outcomes
Knowledge: - students are oriented in various perspectives and approaches to the periodization of psychological development; - students are oriented in the professional terminology of developmental psychology;- Students are familiar with theories of significant figures in ontogenetic psychology (Jean Piaget, Sigmund Freud, Erik Erikson). - Students are familiar with theories of Czech representatives of biodromal psychology (Zdeněk Matějček, Pavel Říčan, Josef Langmeier, Dana Krejčířová, Marie Vágnerová, etc.).- Students are familiar with the theories of Czech representatives of biodromal psychology (Zdeněk Matějček, Pavel Říčan, Josef Langmeier, Dana Krejčířová, Marie Vágnerová, etc.). Skills:- Students are able to use terminology from developmental psychology. - Students are familiar with literature in the field of developmental psychology and are able to write an independent academic text characterizing the psyche at individual stages of development. - Students are able to create a program for children that takes into account the specifics of psychological development. Competencies:- Students are able to use their knowledge of developmental psychology in pedagogical practice. - Students are able to apply knowledge from the field of developmental psychology in theater production for children.
Syllabus
The following areas of developmental psychology will be studied during the first semester: - introduction to developmental psychology, its subject matter, history, and research methods; - theories of psychological development periodization and their authors; - Piaget's periodization of cognitive development; - Freud's psychoanalytic theory of psychological development; - E.H. Erikson and the theory of psychosocial conflicts in development; - stages of human psychological development; - characteristics of individual developmental periods: - prenatal period; - newborn and infant period; - toddler period; - preschool age; - early school age (challenging situations in teaching and how to deal with them)

Teaching methods
Forms of lessons: lectures, seminars Teaching methods: lectures, working with text and the visual material, discussions, students' individual activities.
Assessment methods
The semester ends with a written exam covering specified topics. For students specializing in Theater and Education for the Deaf, the written exam is followed by an oral exam, interpreted into sign language by an interpreter.
