- Course objectives
- The course introduces contemporary social scientific thinking about art and shows the possibilities of its application to artistic research. The core of interpretation and seminar discussions is based on a critical reflection on art in modernity, especially in the late-modern situation in relation to important issues of social stratification, politics and economics. Particular emphasis is placed on issues of the construction and reproduction of artistic status and taste.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- understand the basic concepts of sociology, psychology and cultural anthropology focused on art
- be oriented in the basic themes of critical reflection on art in the late modern situation
- understand the relationship between art, society, economics and politics
- apply social science theories to their own artistic research. - Syllabus
