Course objectives
The goal of the course is to 1)take the participant through different stages of the process of lighting design and 2) to introduce them to different fields of lighting design and explain them the differences between them. In the first semester the lectures are focused on a systematic journey through all stages of the creative process (from first researches to documentation), in the second semester the focus is more on the process of design in other fields then stage lighting. There are guest lecturers invited throughout the semester to give the students master classes in these different fields.

  • 1) Documentation in lighting design: light-plot 2) Documentation in lighting design: tables and sheets 3) Colour in practice. How to make the best choice. 4) On stage: set-up, focus and making groups. 5) On stage: programming light-cues. 6) Lighting design for events. 7) Light installations. 8) Concert lighting design. 9) Lighting design in architecture and exhibitions.

Teaching methods
"Lighting design concept" is conceived mainly as a seminar. The students are invited to actively participate on the discussion and show/ consult examples of their work. They are also supposed to create all together an online database of reference and inspiration pictures as well as a collection of materials.
Assessment methods
The lecturer evaluates a home work specified at the end of the semester as well as its oral presentation.
