Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with a historical insight into the field of literature for children and young people from the beginning of the 1990s to the present day. From the point of view of theory and history, students will get to know key authors and their works and basic terminology. Students will gain an overview of individual thematic areas, genre definitions, and the current production of literature for children and youth.
In connection with the field of study, attention is also paid to literature as a starting point for theatre work with children and youth. The subject is also focused on the possibilities of using literature for children and young people when working with a children's theater group or theatre for children (searching for themes, subjects, genre, production key, etc.).
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- orient yourself in the historical development since the 1990s, basic terminology, and current production of literature for children and youth;
- to characterize the main works of the current production of literature for children and youth and to define their value with the involvement of a critical approach;
- name the possibilities and risks of the selected literary work for the theater work;
- analyze and reflect on selected literary works for children and youth and apply this knowledge when choosing a literary model for a selected group of children and youth;
- critically evaluate a literary work and choose suitable means for a theatrical performance within the framework of creating a dramaturgical and directorial concept.

Assessment methods
The evaluation takes place in the form of an oral exam on the submitted materials. Students prepare a written work based on the assignment and make an oral presentation. More detailed information is available in the detailed syllabus published in the study materials of the subject in IS.
