Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce final year students to the broad field of cultural theory and history outside of the theatre context, however, from a perspective based on the requirements for expanding knowledge in the field of cultural production. The course will primarily focus on the theory of culture and art with overlaps into anthropology, psychology and ethology. Emphasis will be placed on theorizing about the functions of the arts, especially the role they play as a catalyst for group cohesion. This is not only in traditional hunter-gatherer societies, but also in contemporary pop culture.
