Course objectives
Developing the skills acquired in the first semester, orientation in ensemble singing 2 and polyphony with an emphasis on correct intonation, rhythm, dynamics, phrasing, and overall expression when interpreting compositions of various musical styles. Combining ensemble singing with acting, or movement, working with a microphone and its use during performances.
Learning outcomes
After completing the second semester of ensemble singing, students will be able to orient themselves in musical notation, accept requirements for dynamics and expression, maintain their vocal position in the leading melody and in accompanying voices with piano support, maintain their designated vocal position in 3-4 voice a cappella compositions, and interpret all studied material from memory.
Syllabus
Rhythmic and intonation exercises that increase the demands on mutual perception, respect, and cooperation between individual voices, emphasis on the meaning of lyrics in music, 2-4 voice compositions with piano accompaniment from the genres of jazz, pop, rock, etc., with a preference for works by Czech composers (J. Šlitr & J. Suchý, J. Bulis, J. Kainar, and others), gradual introduction to polyphony and a cappella (the beginnings of vocal polyphony), improvisation exercises, creative approach. Practical application of the material studied (performances at vernissages, short performances for audiences of various age groups), cooperation with a professional sound engineer during performances, ensemble work with microphones - each voice is amplified separately.
