Course objectives
The ability to independently lead a project ranging from reportage to site-specific work to performances involving event participants. Mastery of methods for collecting and verifying material; ethics in working with documents and representation. Dramaturgical composition of documentary material; transformation of facts into stage action. Construction of a meaningful and cohesive stage form—the staging of a documentary theater production
Learning outcomes

Upon graduation, the student:


is able to research and process documentary material,


can create a script based on facts and events,


transforms documentary material into a stage production,


is able to defend the ethical aspects of their work.

Syllabus

Thematic mapping and research: defining personal and social contexts, objectives, and criteria.


Data collection methods: interviews, archival research, field observations; working with audio/video.


Reporting and curating material: sorting, verifying, and discarding.


Identifying theatricality: performative potential, the role of the audience, participation.


Documentary dramaturgy: script composition, working with quotations and authorization.


Translation into a stage form: mise-en-scène, space, time, mediality.


Ethics and Law: informed consent, citations, protection of personal data.


Revision and final presentation / or pilot presentation; reflection on the process.

Teaching methods
A seminar focused on active participation and the assessment of students' work; students prepare materials that then serve as the basis for work during group exams, thereby verifying and advancing their own work process
Assessment methods
Ongoing assessment of the student’s preparedness and commitment; 90% attendance is required due to the nature of the collaborative work—the production’s final output at the Dok Theater

Course Description (Synopsis) A practical seminar exploring the transfer of real-life themes to the theater through documentary and performative approaches. Stages of the project: selection and definition of topics → gathering materials → organizing → reporting → identifying theatricality/performativity → scriptwriting → stage adaptation (searching for the “neuralgia” of reality) → revision → final presentation. The goal is a precise performative event based on facts and events, rather than purely on the authors’ inner world.
