Course objectives
The primary objective of the course is to catalyze the personal expression of students, stimulating them to discover, articulate, and scenically explore authentic personal themes and observations of contemporary society. Furthermore, the course aims to demystify the creative process by presenting the creation of a theatre performance not as the interpretation of a pre-existing text, but as a process-oriented laboratory centered around the actor-author. The seminar develops a sense for the theatrical sign, teaching students to perceive space, time, body, object, and sound as equal carriers of a specific theatrical poetics and message. Lastly, the course integrates artistic and pedagogical components, guiding students through their own creative practice to understand the mechanisms of collective creation, which they can subsequently apply in their drama education practice.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to identify and analyze viable dramatic material within personal experience and surrounding reality. They will be able to apply various methodological approaches of devised theatre, including fixed improvisation, object theatre, associative writing, and working with documentary material. Graduates will successfully translate abstract ideas and themes into concrete, functional, and legible theatrical signs and metaphors. Within a team, they will co-create and subsequently defend a coherent theatrical piece that exhibits a clearly defined authorial poetics. Finally, they will reflect on the rehearsal process and critically identify both the limitations and strengths of the resulting scenic form.
Syllabus
The next phase is the laboratory and translation into theatrical signs, where physicality is understood as the primary carrier of meaning while working with the time and space of the rehearsal room. The following phase is dedicated to fixing the scenic form itself, working on the precision of the theatrical sign, stripping away clutter, and integrating sound and light design with the action on stage during the technical rehearsal. The entire work concludes with the final studio presentation of the resulting theatrical piece and a final evaluation seminar with reflection.

Teaching methods
As this is a purely practical seminar, the teaching combines specific formats of work in the rehearsal room. This includes practical exercises and psychosomatic training to develop stage presence and awareness of both the partner and the space. The course extensively utilizes guided improvisation containing individual and collective prompts aimed at creating micro-situations on a given topic. A key method is collective creation or devising, which consists of collaborative form-finding directly in the rehearsal room, sharing ideas, and providing mutual directorial assistance. An important component is peer and expert reflection realized as regular analyses of work-in-progress stages at the end of each seminar, utilizing methods of descriptive and constructive criticism.
Assessment methods
The course concludes with a credit, and the final grade consists of three components. The first component, with a weight of forty percent, is active participation and engagement in seminars, evaluating continuous work in the rehearsal room, willingness to experiment, stepping out of one's comfort zone, and a constructive approach to teamwork. The second component, also with a forty percent weight, is the final presentation of the theatrical piece, assessing the clarity of the message, the justification of the chosen poetics, the functionality of the theatrical signs, and craft readiness in terms of rhythm and concentration. The remaining twenty percent of the assessment consists of a final self-reflection in the form of an oral defense or a written essay of approximately two standard pages, in which the student analyzes the creative process from the initial idea to the final form, including managing any crises encountered.
