Course objectives

The aim of the course is to outline the process of conceptualizing and leading long-term work with amateur theatre groups—whether composed of children, youth, adults, or seniors. These specific approaches draw on insights from social psychology, particularly regarding group dynamics, role theory, leadership concepts, and the like. At the same time, the course addresses pedagogical topics such as the role of the instructor, the learning group, and the development of educational curricula tailored to specific target groups.


The course will be based on both academic literature and an examination of the actual practices of existing theatre groups across the Czech Republic.

Learning outcomes

Student's professional knowledge:


- students are well-versed in the topic of developing a long-term strategy for working with an amateur theatre group;


- students actively utilize their knowledge of professional terminology from general psychology and personality psychology;


- students demonstrate extensive knowledge of theories regarding psychological processes, states, and traits;


- students demonstrate the ability to identify connections within the development and current state of specific target groups, their leaders, and group dynamics.




Student's professional skills:


- the student is able to formulate questions that lead to an exploration of the topic and to analyze the resulting answers;


- the student is able to work with specialized pedagogical and psychological literature;


- the student is able to draw upon knowledge from other subjects to explore the topic;


- the student is able to create a long-term work plan for an amateur theatre group.




Student's general competencies:


- students are able to utilize knowledge of general psychology, personality psychology, and pedagogy when preparing for and reflecting on their pedagogical and theatrical practice;


- students are able to apply acquired knowledge to their personal growth and development in both their professional and personal lives;


- students are able to apply their knowledge to self-discovery and the development of their own group leadership style;


- students are able to apply these insights when creating theatre for children and other age groups.
