Abstract

In the original language

The paper “Viola d‚amore in the Works of Contemporary Composers: Analytical Probes into Four Selected Compositions” focuses on examining the use of the viola d’amore in compositions by contemporary authors. The text presents the possibilities of the viola d'amore, focusing on its special characteristics—string tuning and the function of sympathetic strings. Furthermore, it analyzes the use of these possibilities in compositions by Rachel Stott: “Odysseus in Ogygia,” Annegret Mayer-Lindenberg: “To Let Go of the Universe,” Þráinn Hjalmarsson: “Utter/Enunciate,” and Zeno Baldi: “Spikes.”
