Abstract

In the original language

In English

The songs of the Brno cOmposer Agnes Tyrrell (1846-1883) have, in contrast to her other compositions received limited atention by researchers and performers. There are, however, several dozen compositions in this genre which have been of significance in the development of european music of the nineteenth century. Due to the lenght of his article, which prevents a comprehensive analysis of the given theme, there will only be an attempt to explore in brief the song legancy of Agnes Tyrrell and point out this interesting and unjustly almost completely neglected part of her compositional production. Very little attention has been paid up until now to the compositions by Bertha Tyrrell (1842-1916). Despite the fact that only a few of her songs have been preserved, alongside shorter piano compositions, a brief discussion of this area of her work will be of value, for a comparison, among other things, with the similar compositions of her younger sister Agnes.
