The Open Forum at the Theatre World Brno 2024 festival is a multidisciplinary space for discussion and reflection on current issues related to publicly funded theatre arts in the Czech Republic. During the meeting, we will focus on the position of theatre criticism and journalism in the context of the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic's subsidy procedures. During the first of two discussion sessions, we will discuss the role of theatre criticism and journalism in evaluating artistic works, the transparency of subsidy processes, and the composition of the committees' membership. In the second session, we will discuss the concrete lived experience of artists who have gone through the Ministry of Culture's subsidy processes and the impact of these processes on contemporary theatre production. The event is addressed to the professional community, artists, theatre critics, representatives of institutions, students, and all those interested in the conditions of the contemporary theatre scene. The debate is organised by the Centre for Experimental Theatre in cooperation with the Janáček Academy of Performing Arts and the Theatre World Brno festival. It is a loose continuation of the series of irregular meetings of the CED Round Tables.
