Mary Bártů (1904–1960) was one of the famous divas devoted to operetta of the interwar period, who performed on Czechoslovakian, the Protectorate and the Third 8 Reich stages. On her journey, she increasingly found satisfaction not only in acting, but also in directing which she started to pursue more intensely after working with Oldřich Nový in Brno in the 1930s. At the beginning of the afterwar period she commenced work as a director in Brno where she used some innovations that she gained during her performative career.

Mary Bártů byla nejen československou operetní divou, která překonala hranice jazykové bariéry a stala se vyhledávanou star protektorátních scén a posléze divadel Třetí říše. Byla také ambiciózní a náročnou režisérkou, která se vrátila do Brna v roce 1943, kdy zdecimované Zemské divadlo znovu obnovilo provoz pod hlavičkou Českého lidového divadla v Brně. Režijní práci, kterou před válkou vnímala koncepčně v práci Oldřicha Nového, po válce rozvíjela v brněnských inscenacích soudodobé i klasické operetní dramaturgie.
