Course objectives
Teach students to be able to work with basic motifs practices in creating melodies, writing tunes in different styles, modes; compositional work in individual harmonic environments.
Syllabus
  • Repeating scales, modes, tensions. Working with motif and theme-duplication, inversion, augmentation, diminution, imitation crab procedures adornment through-hole, alternating tones. Analysis melodies of songs like "In Walked Bud" Th. Monk, "Blue in Green" M. Davis - reduction melodic lines. Practical completion melodies already given touchpoints-tones, as in the famous harmonious environment (eg. Harmony "Giant Steps" by J. Coltrane) and the imaginary. Working with intervals, writing melodies in these modes, scales. Analysis of the respective tracks (eg. "Careful," J. Hall - melody abiding reduced scale) and the like.
