Course objectives
The aim of the course is an introduction of personality psychology as a psychology discipline and explanation of selected topics from the field (temperament, character, motivation, etc.); following the knowledge of personality psychology the basics of psychopathology will be outlined as well as an introduction to interpersonal communication. Last but not least, the course aims at teaching students various strategies to handle difficult life situations with the help of mental hygiene elements. Descriptors Knowledge: Students know and understand the terminology of general psychology and the terminology of personality psychology; students can demonstrate knowledge of basic theories of personality; students can demonstrate basic knowledge of psychopathology, communication theory and mental hygiene. Skills: students are versed in working with professional texts of psychology literature; students can integrate their knowledge of general psychology into the structure of personality psychology; students can apply methods of self-observation and reflect on their feelings; students can choose appropriate ways of communication as per situation and aim of the communication act. Competences: students are able to apply acquired knowledge from the field of personality psychology to their own personal growth and development in the area of work and personal life; students are able to utilize learned knowledge for their self-cognition, effective handling of stressful situations by using mental hygiene elements; they recognize effective memory strategies and use the principles of effective learning

  • Outline of general psychology in relation to the Theatre Management degree programme. Personality psychology. Structure of psychology. Temperament. Motivation. Emotions. Effective learning strategies and memory exercises. Psychopathology. Guide to interpersonal communication. Transactional analysis. “Talk, I am listening.” Stress and how to cope. Mental hygiene. Relaxation. Imagination. Using art therapy elements.

Teaching methods
Lecture, text based work and analysis, art therapeutic methods of working with image, relaxation methods, discussion methods, self-study and self-work of students.
Assessment methods
During the course students write a seminar paper on a selected topic. The course includes final written exam.
