Základem předmětu jsou přednášky seznamující s historií, současností a zákonitostmi jednotlivých televizních žánrů. Ty jsou doplněny kritickým sledováním typických zástupců jednotlivých televizních žánrů a jejich následnou analýzou formou kolokvia. Nedílnou součástí semináře je i domácí tvorba studentů: vytváření námětů původních televizních pořadů, esejistické úvahy o současných televizních žánrech a studium odborné (české i zahraniční) literatury.
