Course objectives
Graduates have an in-depth understanding of copyright law, including from the perspective of performing artists, producers of sound recordings, audiovisual recordings and other holders of rights related to copyright. They are well-versed in the issues surrounding collective management and media law.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to: know and understand the principles and legal framework governing artistic performances, audio and audiovisual recordings, and other rights related to copyright; identify appropriate options for the use of the works in question; identify and comprehensively draft proposals for appropriate licensing arrangements to secure these user rights; engage in informed communication with the management of arts organisations, agencies and collective management organisations regarding the copyright arrangements for the realisation of artistic works; independently identify the appropriate form of the necessary contractual relationships between users and copyright licence holders; be familiar with the legal procedures required for the publication of periodicals and non-periodicals, as well as in the field of television and radio broadcasting law.

Teaching methods
As part of their self-study, students work with, amongst other things, an interactive syllabus which summarises the individual topics and provides supplementary study materials. During lectures, key topics are presented or explored in greater depth, using specific examples from cultural practice. As part of the seminar-based teaching, students work on set tasks (typically independent or team-based analysis of specific situations from a copyright perspective, analysis of contract texts, legislation or other legal documents, exercises to master legal concepts, etc.). Each assignment is followed by an assessment, generally involving a presentation and defence of the student’s own solution and position, followed by group discussion and debate, with the lecturer providing ongoing guidance and feedback on the arguments presented. Throughout the semester, students complete ongoing assignments set as part of the seminars, which assess their ability to work independently with legal texts and apply them to specific situations.
Assessment methods
Student receives during an active involvement formative assessment, and is graded based on a combination of written and oral exams. More detailed information can be found in the interactive syllabus.
