Course objectives
Course Objectives:
- To increase awareness of the principles and rules of street theatre.
- To deepen the theoretical and practical experience of the students of the participating disciplines.
- To deepen the theoretical and practical experience of the students in terms of production support of street theatre.
- To gain practical experience of visual presentation in a street parade/theatre.
- To enhance the circus skills of the students of the course.
- To improve the interaction between the different degree programmes.
- To increase interdisciplinary collaboration.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- Orient themselves in the historical context of street theatre.
- Know the principles and rules of street theatre.
- To be familiar with the production side of street theatre organisation.
- Plan and manage outdoor projects - street theatre/parade.
- Present their circus skills in the open air.
Syllabus
  • Principles of street theatre (historical context (mansions and 20th century - performative events, carnivals, parade speeches - Festival of Masks, etc.) meaning and purpose, communication, working with the crowd, dramaturgy, visual aspect)
  • - Circus skills (weekend workshop) at the end of LS focusing on juggling, stilts, slack lines, jumping shoes, etc.
  • - Production of the outdoor event
  • - Collaboration in the creative team in the realization of the outdoor event (understanding of the role and function and demands of the different positions in the creative team and their interdependence)
  • - Technical support for the outdoor event (complexity, length of preparation, aspects of the outdoor environment)
  • - The visual aspect of the outdoor event and the ability to estimate the capacity and possibilities for fulfilling the vision (with links to the production and financial side of things)

Teaching methods
Regular teaching in the form of:
- Theoretical lectures
- Practical exercises in the form of street theatre preparation
- Practical realization of a street parade
- Practical workshops in circus skills (1 weekend: stilts, slack line, juggling, jumping shoes, unicycle, ...)
Assessment methods
mandatory participation of enrolled students, credit will be awarded based on personal participation in the parade
