Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students who do not study scenography to contemporary theatre architecture and the use of technology for the creation of theatre spaces.
The goal is to deepen the thinking and collaboration of the scenic designer with the student of stage technology not only in the areas of lighting, construction, and sound, but also in the architecture and functionality itself.
The goal is to teach students to think practically - that is, to be able to define the needs of the theatre operation for the needs of the architect in the possible creation of a new building or the operation of a stage in the creation of a scenic design.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- orient themselves in the current trends in theatre architecture,
- define the needs of the operation when creating or reconstructing a new space,
- be a partner to the architect in defining the technical requirements of a given space,
- define the operational needs of a theatre scene when designing a set,
- be familiar with current trends in theatre design.

  • - Modern theatre buildings around the world e.g. Reykjavik Opera House, Oslo Opera House, City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Hamburg Opera House, etc.
  • - Modern theatre buildings in the Czech Republic e.g. Dox, New Stage of DJKT in Pilsen,
  • - contemporary theatre trends: Katie Mitchell, Robert Wilson, etc.
