General knowledge of Shakespeare´s life and works, and of the theatrical devices of the Elizabethan theatre.

Course objectives
The student will acquire the ability to analyze and to interpret Shakespeare plays according to their proper artistic intention, and then (but not before it) to trasfer them and to modify them creatively for the contemporary public and up to our cultural context.
Learning outcomes
General and special knowledge of Shakespeare as the pivotal representant of the Western culture with its history, literature, philosophy, law-tradition, art, institutions and religion.
Syllabus
  • General and special knowledge of Shakespeare as the pivotal representant of the Western culture with its history, literature, philosophy, law-tradition, art, institutions and religion. The second semestr is especially dedicated to the artistic imagination of romances representing miracles, forgiveness and reconciliation. - A truly crucial theme of the European culture!

Teaching methods
Lectures on the various aspects of the Shakespeare´s plays, presentation of different theatre and movie productions, discussions, sometimes close analysis of small portions of Shakespeare verses.
Assessment methods
Written test and oral examination.
