Course objectives
The aim of the course is the application of theater management through work experience. Students are participating on a large scale project (festival SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER) and they are guided to apply theoretical skills gained within the first year of their bachelor studies under supervision.
Student is involved at the intermediate organizational level of the festival team, brings creative ideas for the work of his/her team work and is able to evaluate his/her own work and give feedback to other students involved.
Learning outcomes
After graduation of the subject student acquires basic practical skills concerning the organization of the festival, practical legal knowledge related to theatre/event management. Student is able to work in a team and take responsibility for his/her own tasks and perceives links between individual activities within the broader organizational structure.
Syllabus
  • Summer semester: Participation in the organization of the International Festival of Theatre Schools SETKÁNÍ/ENCOUNTER (subject DDML212) at the interim management level including ongoing peer review and self-evaluation in the seminar. Theoretical reflection takes place in the course International Theatre Festival Management through design, implementation and evaluation of basic project tasks with this syllabus:
    - Involvement in the organizational structure of the middle management level, responsibilities and powers of the specific organizational structure according to the project,
    - Long-term planning of the activities, problems solving, evaluation and feedback middle management level
    - Team management, collaboration, interdisciplinary communication (connection to the field of stage technology, dramaturgy, directing, acting, etc..), documentation and presentation,
    - Assessment of teams, self-assessment, evaluation by coordinator.
    In January, the completion of the selection of the coordinator of the festival next year from the students of 2nd year. Festival becomes the coordinator for student graduation project.
    In February there is the name of the organizational structure of the upcoming year.
    In April, a week after the end of the festival, a new team of students receives complete project documentation from team leaders and a list of post-production activities. Students of 2nd grade take over the festival, prepare post production and implement plans of the next issue of festival.
    In June, are prepared project plans, schools are addressed and implemented a fundraising plan.

Graded credit on the basis of:
- Practical work in class and written output section for the current edition of the festival (project documentation section, a list of post-production activities). Evaluation will be carried by a student team leader and student coordinator after the consultation with teacher.
- Practical work in class and written output for next year of the festival (postproduction, concept). Evaluation is carried by teacher.
