Tonal, functional harmony-used to half of 50ies, the advent of modal harmonies, most presented release date M.Davise "Kind of Blue" (the song "So What," "All Blues" - in addition to the other use ostinato etc.) in 60s increasingly distancing functional harmony, harmony so called chromatic, ambiguous tonality (W.Shorter "Nefertiti", H.Hancock "Maiden Voyage"), the 70th, the 80s, the advent of fusion, a much more important role of the bass line ( virtuoso bassists like J.Pastorius) -harmony that increasingly emphasized bass, have taken turns and broken chords, delays. In contemporary composers such as. By John Scofield we find polytonal relations between melody and bass line ( "Stranger to the Light").
