Course objectives
The course introduces sociology as a social science that focuses on the social life of individuals and their interaction in the context of the functioning of society as a whole. Students will be made familiar with the basic sociological terminology and the history of the field, its basic paradigms and key themes. At the end of the course the graduate should be able to describe social phenomena using sociological concepts and should be able to critically reflect the analyzed social reality.
Learning outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- apply the sociological perspective to the basic issues of everyday life;
- know the main sociological concepts, concepts and paradigms;
- apply the acquired knowledge in their professional practice.

  • 4. The basics of social life
  • 5. The relationship between nature and society
  • 6. An individual and society - people in interaction
  • 7. Social groups - social units
  • 8. Status; social mobility; social role
  • 9. How is power exercised in society, what is manipulation, where are the limits of conformity?
  • 10. Communications and media
  • 11. High versus popular culture - delimitation, characteristics, and differences
  • 12. The sociological perspective - society as a drama
