- Course objectives
- The course is an introduction into the Shakespearian drama and its artistic achievement, analysing closely his plays from different view-points in terms of their genre, subject, story, ethics, characters, situation, theatre-history, art-techniques and religion.
- Learning outcomes
- Knowlege of the selected Shakespeare´s plays.
Ability to analyze and to interpret those plays in their cultural and historical context, as well as to tranfer their inner artistic values creatively out of it and to modify them for a contemporary viewer. - Syllabus
- The list of the selected plays is wider, but four of them are constantly taught and referred to: Romeo and Juliet (for tragedies), Henry V. (for history plays), Much Ado about Nothing (for comedies) and All´s Well that Ends Well (for the problem plays and romances). Many different aspects of the plays are put under scrutiny - questions of the early modern history, religion, ethics, politics, psychology, art and theatre.
