Prerequisites
Student graduated in the bachelor degree of Theatre Production and Stage Technology or in equal type of studies.

Course objectives
The aim is to provide a deeper overview of qualitative and quantitative research, strategy research and conducting research, deepen the skills associated with the processing of written research reports and working with sources and quoting. Help students to select a topic, developing the research project and thesis project processing.
Sub-objectives:
To provide basic information on the methodology of science, types of research, qualitative and mixed research.
Select an appropriate subject for a thesis so that next year is sufficient time for its processing. Getting to know the timing and work in progress of the thesis.
Peer to peer handover of experience of master's degree (state exam, work on thesis) students to students of bachelor degree.

The course is offered in the summer semester of the first year of the master's degree programme. The intent is to strengthen competencies of students toward future research and development activities (especially those who aspire to a future doctoral studies) and in sufficient time to enable them to realize their study and research plan towards the project thesis.
Learning outcomes
Student
- knows the methodology of research specific to the field of study and is able apply it when palnning his / her thesis,
- can design and perform relevant pre-researches to analyze the data and use the conclusions of the analyzes to set the right research methods in the thesis,
- can evaluate the primary and secondary literature and other sources relevant to the topic of the thesis,
- can creatively manage administrative tools and on-line applications for online sharing and consultation of delivered texts and documents,
- is able to identify problem chains, choose and defend their own creative procedures.
- is able to present and defend his / her research intention and selected research methods.
Syllabus
  • Search for the topic. From personal interests to the objectives of the thesis. From written reasoning towards a research project.
    Organization and process of state final master exams. Requirements, defense of the thesis.
    Qualitative, quantitative and mixed research. Approaches to qualitative research. Case Study.
    Methods of data collection, methods of data analysis and interpretation.
    Research report, assessment of research quality.
    Methodology of the research project.
    How to write the final report (seminar, dissertation). Standards and citations arrangement.
    How to present own research project.
    Information about doctoral studies.

    The semester timetable is set at the beginning of the spring semester in the section of study documents in IS. . According to this schedule, students share their assigned tasks in an environment GoogleDoc.

    Tasks of the course:
    Study the documents and literature for the diploma thesis in advance.
    Elaboration of the thesis project - topic, hypothesis, objectives, description of methods, elaboration of the time plan, determination of needed resources: required material, financial and human resources.
    Agreement on the thesis supervisor and the opponent.
    Think about the draft for producer bid (part of the final state examinatio.
    Lear how to present a research plan, how to provoke controversy over research questions.

Graded credit on the basis of:
- Participation in seminars and active work with the recommended literature - attendance according to the agreement and plan, including the implementation of tasks on schedule (20%)

- Submission and presentation of the topic of producer bid (20%)
- Processing and presentation of class assignments (20%)
