- Course objectives
- During the course students get acquainted with methodical approaches of Modern Dance especially with theoretical principals of each style and practical performance of basic and more demanding exercises. The course reflects the specifics of Modern Dance, including wider possibilities of using varied means of expression in order to build compositions of different form and content, to reach reinforced effect on audience and to make artistic pieces from little etudes to great dance compositions.
At the end of the course students should be able:
- to create variety of dance combinations by correct methodical rules
- analyze movement according to versatile possibilities of human body as well as expression possibilities
- handle the methodical approaches of Modern Dance teaching techniques
- understand the principals and connections emphasizing creative activity and interdisciplinary overlap
- handle the specific terminology of Modern Dance
- come up with inspiring stimulus and new approaches of Modern Dance to develop this field
- critically reflect happening of Modern Dance
- self-reliant choose and co-create the methodology of this field - Syllabus
- - From the 1st to the 4th term students focus on the José Limón dance technique including elementary elements and exercises for beginner as well as advanced and professional dancers: succession, fall and recover, gravity, bounce, recovery and rebound, suspension, swings, opposition, turning, spiral. Students concentrate to mastering of each element and movement emphasizing coordination and developing turning technique.
- - The next two semesters are devoted to familiarization with elements and special terminology of Jazz Dance including: warm up, knee bend, brush, contraction, extension, jazz adagio, flick, kick, isolations, ripple, jazz turning, jazz walk, jumps, polyrhythmic exercises and others.
- - In the following 3 semesters students work with the Martha Graham dance technique. Lessons are focused on understanding basis of technique, elaboration of particular elements and movements based on breathing up (release) and breathing out (contraction). Students handle with all theoretical and methodical aspects of this technique.
- - In the last semester students focus on mastering of difficult technical movements, exercises and combinations, especially at the centre and in space. They pay attention to preparation to perform greater dancing forms.
