- Course objectives
- To overview the development of court and bourgeois dance of the XIVth – XIXth centuries; give characteristics of each time period (genesis and history) and environment; introduce fashion, music, etiquette, choreography; explain steps and analyze certain dances.
Descriptors: students will be able to analyze dance archetypes; name basic structures of historical dances (their genesis and choreography); theoretically and practically handle the diversity of dance repertoir of certain time periods; creatively apply the material on stage. - Syllabus

- renaissance – characteristics, social life, costumes, typical dances
- pavane, gagliardi, volta
- baroque – characteristics of this period, life and artistic style, typical dances
- courante
- rococo – stylized dancing forms, rococo menuet, gavotte, reverences
- contradances of the 18th century, dancing forms inspired by folk dance, companionable forms of interpretation
- dancing revolution in the 19th century, basic types of Ballroom Dances (polonaise, waltz, polka, mazurka)
