- Course objectives
- The methodology of folk dance as a theoretical subject offers to student theoretical knowledge and methodical approaches for teaching praxes of Czech, Moravian, Slezian and some of Slovakian folk dances. It is focused on national folk dances in their authentic forms. The aim of the subject is to refer about historical, geographical and social conditions of live that influenced creating folk dance culture of each dancing region. Big attention is also paid to music accompaniment which has to correspond with subject matter by its character and style in order to manage characteristic dancing style of each region by all students. During the lessons students are also informed about art stylisations of compositions created by famous Czech and Slovakian music composers (B. Smetana, A. Dvořák, B. Martinů, V. Novák, J. Krčka, Z. Lukáš, and other) and their adaptation to teaching praxis.
At the end of the course students should be able to master all this specific subject matter and should be able to:
- orientate in typical Czech folk regions and their dancing and music realisation
- analyse east and west music areas, types of dances, historical development, characteristic features and movements
- use all collected knowledge to create stylisation of folk material with an overlap to sophisticated art output - Syllabus
- - Characteristics of folk regions according to folk dance and its particular style; a distribution of dances according to: type, function, platform, distribution of folk dance steps; basic principles and elements of exercises at the bar and in the centre; content of the lesson; preparation for teaching praxis
- - the 1st and the 2nd semesters are devoted to introduction to basic folk dance terminology: style, form, content, dancing gesture, figure, figuration, route, principle of individuality and improvisation, dancing typology; distribution of dancing step into two groups (general steps, special steps), methodical approach of teaching these steps according their difficulty; examples of simple dances, children’s folklore and methodology of work according to use of all means of expression (rhythm, pace, dynamics, space); figuration and routes of Czech fold dances
- - 3rd and 4th term: dancing variants of Czech folk dances and dances from the region called Horácko with respect to characteristic and style specificities; teaching methodology of particular elements and dances, distribution of dances to particular school classes according to their difficulty; dance regions called Southern Bohemia, Chodsko, Eastern Bohemia and Horácko
- - 5th and 6th term: folk dance region called Haná, general dancing types and their distribution according to historical and social context,folk dance region Lachia with begard to personality of Leoš Janáček, folk dance region Wallachia and dancing methodology of speciál men dances (Ondráš, Wallachian jump, Odzemek), methodology of lifted up figures
- - 7th and 8th term: folk dance region called Slovácko with focus on style specificities to whirling rotating dances and methodology of their teaching
- - Slovácký verbuňk as a "Masterpiece of Oral Intangible Heritage of Humanity" (registered in the UNESCO 2005)
- - dance style specificities of Slovakian folk dances from regions called Myjava, Goral region, Eastern Slovakia, Horehroní) and their inclusion to teaching praxis with regard to their difficulty
- - 9th and 10th term: deepening knowledge about style specificities of particular regions and finishing exploration of all this specific dance material; evaluation and systematisation of methodical teaching approach in particular age categories based on acquired knowledge about style and technique, creating dance stylisations to the folk art-inspired composers
