Graduation of the Theatre Production (bachelor degree study programme, formerly Theatre Management and Stage Technology) or a similiar type of study programme.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to teach students to apply knowledge gained in law to specific managerial situations: solve standard legal agenda in contracts, corporate and copyright law.
Learning outcomes
Students will be able to: apply current law to find specific solutions to standard managerial situations, including any ongoing adjustments based on feedback, repeated in-depth research or amendments to legislation; independently locate the necessary legal text, break down a specific managerial situation into individual legal issues and find appropriate solutions, including alternative options with a justification for the preferred course of action; independently process and combine individual legal findings and supporting documents and draw conclusions from them.
Syllabus
Legal analysis of managerial activities organized by students within the framework of the practical project assigned by study programme or model situations. Topics usually cover these areas:
  1. Establishment of a non-profit association
  2. Establishment of a limited liability company
  3. License agreement with a visiting professional
  4. Securing rights to copyrighted works for live (theatrical) performances
  5. Legal aspects of securing an artist's performance
  6. Tax liability and social and health obligations of a freelance artist
  7. Possible legal solutions of fundraising activities and outputs
  8. Legal aspects of organizing cultural events in public spaces

Teaching methods
Students are given a specific production-related problem that commonly arises in practice. As part of their self-study, they first identify, on the basis of their own research, the possible legal aspects, the relevant legislation and any legal risks or issues associated with the situation they are addressing. They then propose their own practical legal solution outlining how they would handle the situation from the producer’s perspective. They submit a written report as one of the assessed assignments prior to the relevant seminar. During the seminar, students work as a specialist advisory team, with the lecturer acting as moderator (and providing feedback on the accuracy of the solutions). Each student submits their solution, which they present with proper reasoning during a discussion with fellow students, whilst also being prepared to defend their position against, and to challenge, the arguments of others. In this way, they learn to integrate legal solutions into standard managerial practices.
Assessment methods

A graded credit is awarded on the basis of attendance at at least 70% of the seminars and the completion of a proportionate share of the seminar assignments for each seminar. Students are expected to participate actively in the seminars and to complete any additional tasks set during the seminars.Graded credit based on the presentation of one of the topics and all written assignments.
