- A native of the Czech Republic, Martin Kleibl studied at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Czech Republic, where he received training in classical, jazz, and popular music. During his two-year scholarship at the University of North Texas, Martin studied in the jazz studio of Ed Soph, one of the world’s top educators. He also gained experience in Indian, Latin American, and African music, which expanded his musical horizons through participation in a series of workshops with top performers. As a prominent performer of his generation, Martin Kleibl has been invited to collaborate in projects by leading Czech and foreign artists in classical, jazz and popular music. Martin also focuses on experimental music; having collaborated with the Swiss Paul Klee Ensemble and the Slovak Quasars Ensemble. He has expanded his musical expertise in the classical field, notably during his seven year employment as a percussionist in the Brno Philharmonic Orchestra. He contributes to contemporary percussion music in the OK Percussion Duo, which he established with Martin Oprsal, Head of the Percussion Department at Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts. Despite Martin´s versatility, the drumset remains to be his principal instrument. Martin Kleibl has performed both as a soloist and in ensembles in most European countries, as well as Japan and the USA. He is endorsed by Canopus Drums, Ufip Cymbals, Innovative Percussion and Evans Drumheads. Along with being an active performer, Martin has been teaching in the Percussion Department at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts since 2017. He commutes between Czech Republic and Vienna. He studied with Fritz Ozmec at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and with Mario Gonzi and Walter Grassmann at the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. He holds a Master’s degree (MA) in Jazz Studies from the Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna and a Doctoral’s degree (Ph.D.) in Interpretation and Theory of Interpretation from Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts.
