Janáčkova akademie múzických umění byla založena 1947. V letech 1953-1963 zde vyučoval Jiří Vysloužil, jehož specializací byla hudba 20. století. Vysloužil také založil v r. 1960 oddělení Hudební teorie.

Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts was established in 1947. From 1953 to 1963 music history and folk music were taught by Jiří Vysloužil. In his teaching he paid particular attention to 20th century music. He also insisted on the formation of the Departement of Music Theory, established early in 1960, and was appointed its head.
