Regionální témata se během posledních deseti let stala nepřehlédnutelnou součástí dramaturgických plánů českých divadel. Prakticky v každém oblastním divadle je možné najít inscenaci, jejíž námět souvisí s regionem, nebo přímo městem, kde došlo k uvedení. O tomto fenoménu, který zkoumám jak teoreticky, tak z pozice praktikujícího dramaturga, jsem v posledních letech hovořil s mnoha dramaturgy, režiséry i uměleckými šéfy. Představy o tzv. regionální dramaturgii se napříč tvůrci liší, což je logické vzhledem k rozdílnosti jejich tvůrčích přístupů, ale i lokalit, v nichž působí. Shodovali se však v odpovědi na otázku, co vše patří mezi regionální témata. Nikdo nerozporoval fakt, že se čeští divadelníci věnují životním osudům skutečných osobností spojených s regionem, reálným událostem, příběhům konkrétních míst a v některých případech také fenoménům spojeným s danou lokalitou. Například se může jednat o produkt, obyčej nebo činnost charakterizující danou oblast.

Regional themes have become an indispensable part of the dramaturgical plans of Czech theatres over the past ten years. In practically every regional theatre, it is possible to find a production whose subject is related to the region or directly to the city where it was performed. In recent years, I have spoken to many dramaturgs, directors and artistic directors about this phenomenon, which I research both theoretically and from the position of a practicing dramaturg. The ideas about so-called regional dramaturgy differ across creators, which is logical given the differences in their creative approaches, but also the locations in which they operate. However, they agreed in their answers to the question of what all belongs to regional themes. No one disputed the fact that Czech theatre artists devote themselves to the lives of real personalities connected to the region, real events, stories of specific places and in some cases also phenomena connected to a given location. For example, it may be a product, custom or activity characterising a given area.
