Od přelomu devatenáctého a počátku dvacátého století byla divadelní kultura v Brně, respektive na Moravě, určována především vlivem rakouského divadelnictví. Kromě pestré evropské dramaturgie a rozvíjení nových podob herectví, režie i výtvarné koncepce scény dochází v této době k plošné výstavbě divadelních budov a s tím i rozšíření divadelní sítě. Divadlo v české řeči je provozováno pravidelněji cestujícími kočujícími společnostmi a pevně se ukotvuje teprve se vznikem první moravské profesionální scény – českého Národního divadla v Brně (v prosinci 2024 jsme si připomněli 140. výročí jeho existence). S ním spojené osobnosti se pak stávají strůjci dalších divadelních provozů v české řeči v teritoriu Moravy.

From the turn of the nineteenth and the beginning of the twentieth century, the theater culture in Brno, or rather in Moravia, was determined primarily by the influence of Austrian theater. In addition to the diverse European dramaturgy and the development of new forms of acting, directing and artistic conception of the stage, at this time there was a widespread construction of theater buildings and with it the expansion of the theater network. Theater in the Czech language is operated more regularly by traveling traveling companies and is firmly anchored only with the establishment of the first Moravian professional stage – the Czech National Theater in Brno (in December 2024 we commemorated the 140th anniversary of its existence). The personalities associated with it then become the architects of other theater operations in the Czech language in the territory of Moravia.
