Abstract
The paper examined the transformation of the concept of theatre as a reflection of national identity during the second half of the 20th century in Czechoslovakia during the communist era. Using a specific example from the production of Divadlo na provázku, it presented the concept of theatre as a means of affirming personal identity and moral integrity in a time of oppression.
