TY - CONF ID - 12921 AU - Michálková Slimáčková, Jana PY - 2021 TI - Misattributed and Uncertainly Ascribed Eighteenth-Century Organ Pieces in the Czech Lands KW - Organ KW - organ pieces KW - authorship KW - music of the 18th century KW - Bohuslav Matěj Černohorský KW - Jan Zach KW - Josef Ferdinand Norbert Seger UR - https://authentic-fake.zrc-sazu.si/ N2 - It was only in the late Baroque when organ music began to be composed in the Czech lands. Plenty of small pieces, mainly fugues and preludes, survived until now, some of them anonymous, of uncertain authorship, under various titles. These were published from the late 18th century on but with misunderstandings and misattributions. E.g. several fugues in editions from the 19th century were attributed to the legend of the late Baroque music Bohuslav Matěj Černohorský, but this authorship was gradually denied (composers were Muffat, Froberger, Kuhnau, Roberday), only one piece is thought to be by him. Brilliant but unfinished and absolutely exceptional in the Czech lands is Toccata C major attributed to Černohorský which seems to be closer to style of Pachelbel than any other organ piece composed in Bohemia. Separate pieces by Josef Norbert Ferdinand Seger were put in pairs according to north German custom in Leipzig edition from 1793. Organ pieces long time thought to be by Jan Zach were recently attributed Joseph Lipavský, a composer born in Vysoké Mýto (Hohenmauth) in Bohemia, who lived in Vienna. Paper will bring a survey and insight into the topic and will introduce examples of pieces and composers. ER -
