Ústředním tématem publikace je sledování baletního umění pod zorným úhlem typu dějového baletního divadla. Z tohoto pohledu autor prioritně charakterizuje původní hudební tvorbu určenou baletním představením. Sleduje také její druhotný nepochybný přínos do koncertní dramaturgie, kde nejlepší díla žijí samostatným koncertním životem, ať již v kompletním tvaru, nebo v autorsky sestavených suitách. Jde o díla 20. století, v němž právě moderní hudba inspiruje choreografy k obohacování baletní techniky. Je zdůrazněna základní průkopnická umělecká síla Ruského baletu Sergeje Ďagileva v Paříži. Publikace současně ukazuje velký přínos české baletní tvorby, zejména v dílech Bohuslava Martinů, což nebylo dosud takto publikováno. Hodnotí zakladatelský přínos Oskara Nedbala a vstupy Vítězslava Nováka na baletní scénu, jakož i přehledy domácí a zahraniční tvorby.

The central theme of the publication is the observation of ballet art with regard to the type of plot ballet theater. From this point of view, the author primarily characterizes the original musical work determined by the ballet performance. It also follows its secondary undoubted contribution to concert dramaturgy, where the best works live an independent concert life, either in its complete form or in author's suites. These are works of the 20th century in which modern music inspires choreographers to enrich ballet technique. The basic pioneering artistic power of Sergei Dagilev's Russian Ballet in Paris is emphasized. At the same time, the publication shows the great contribution of Czech ballet, especially in the works of Bohuslav Martinů, which has not yet been published in this way. It evaluates the founding contribution of Oskar Nedbal and Vítězslav Novák's inputs to the ballet scene, as well as overviews of domestic and foreign works.
