Budova postavená v letech 1860-1862 v Brně na místě zbouraných městských hradeb slouží od poloviny 20. století potřebám Hudební fakulty JAMU. Její průčelí zdobí sochy čtyř antických Karyatid, což jsou ženy plnící funkci nosného sloupu v architektuře. První je ztělesněním matematiky, druhá gramatiky, třetí historie a čtvrtá filozofie. Ztělesňují ideály humanitního školství. Publikace přibližuje historický vývoj i současná specifika provozu Hudební fakulty. Zohledňuje profil jednotlivých kateder a zde studovaných programů, včetně prostorového a materiálního vybavení těchto pracovišť.

The building built in the years 1860-1862 in Brno on the site of the demolished city walls has been serving the needs of the JAMU Faculty of Music since the middle of the 20th century. Its facade is decorated with statues of four ancient Caryatids, which are women who serve as a supporting column in architecture. The first is the embodiment of mathematics, the second grammar, the third history and the fourth philosophy. They embody the ideals of humanities education. The publication describes the historical development and current specifics of the operation of the Faculty of Music. It takes into account the profile of individual departments and the fields studied here, including the spatial and material equipment of these workplaces.
