Suita byla vedle sonáty a koncertu třetím nejvýznamnějším druhem instrumentální hudby 17. a 18. století. Různě stylizované tance se komponovaly pro sólové nástroje, pro komorní ansámbly a pro orchestry, buď jako samostatně vzniklé skladby nebo jako suity sestavené z jevištních děl. Přednáška se zaměřila na počátky tanečních sestav v době renesance, na vývoj suit v baroku, na jejich ustálené i volné podoby, osvětlila typy tanců a jejich charakter v různých zemích, podle různých dobových učebnic, přičemž akcentovala smyčcové nástroje.

In addition to the sonata and the concert, the suite was the third most important instrumental genre of music of the 17th and 18th centuries. Various dances were composed for solo instruments, chamber ensembles and orchestras, either as solo pieces or as suites composed of stage works. The lecture focused on the beginnings of dance groups in the Renaissance period, on the development of the Baroque suites, their steady and free forms, highlighted the types of dances and their character in different countries, according to different period textbooks, emphasizing string instruments.
