Práce reflektuje dějiny kytary, soustředí se také na vývoj literatury tohoto nástroje. Monografie významným způsobem doplňuje organologický výzkum uvedeného nástroje, soustředí se na komplexní podchycení organologického obrazu kytary ve stěžejních dílčích charakteristikách. Autor dané téma reflektuje s ohledem na chronologický vývoj (od starověku až do současnosti), v rámci jednotlivých kapitol však detailně analyzuje problematiku konstrukce nástroje s ohledem na dané teritorium, interpretační charakteristiku a problematiku kytarové literatury, dále si všímá problematiky specifik notového zápisu (tabulatur), či fungování kytary v širších kontextech hudební kultury dané země a doby. Kladem práce je i zřetel na praktické využití uvedených poznatků.

The work reflects the history of the guitar and also focuses on the development of the instrument's literature. The monograph greatly complements the organological research of the instrument, concentrating on the complex underlining of the organological image of the guitar in the key partial characteristics. The author reflects the given topic with regard to the chronological development (from ancient times to the present), but within the individual chapters it analyzes in detail the issue of tool construction with respect to the given territory, interpretative characteristics and the issues of guitar literature, or the functioning of the guitar in the broader contexts of the country's musical culture and time. The work is also focused on the practical use of the knowledge.
