- Course objectives
- The aim of the course Architectural space is to develop an ability of a student to observe behavior of light in the world around us, to document it and understand it as a possible source of an artistic inspiration. The course brings students to various kinds of spaces and puts focus on the interaction of light and architecture. Every excursion starts by an introduction of the space in terms of History and History of Art and is followed by an explication of the particular treatment of natural and artificial light in the space. The second part consists in individual observation and documentation (sketches, drawing, photography, text notes). The participants are asked to put special attention to the influence of light on volume, shapes, materials, its possibilities to transform the space. The specific objects of observation depend on the character of the space. One excursion is dedicated to visual perception in total dark. The Course both introduces the students to extraordinary buildings in Brno and its surroundings and it teaches them to perceive light and space in perspective of a stage designer. Works of students created throughout the semester are collected and used for a "visual diary" that is a tangible output of the course.
