- Course objectives
- Modern dance is one of the main vocational subjects that aim to increase technical excellence of each student, to develop persuasiveness of his/her dancing expression and co-create his/her art personality. According to range, possibility of use and methodical elaboration of main Modern Dance techniques (Jose Limon’s technique, Martha Graham’s technique, Jazz Dance) it is necessary to provide firm and profound basics to all students. Students should use these basics to develop particular elements, later connected into more demanding and longer combinations.
At the end of the course students should be able to master all this specific subject matter and should be able to:
- master all this specific subject matter and enforce it in their dancing pedagogical praxis.
- follow and observe contemporary international trends
- know all important principals and connections of each specific modern dance technique emphasizing creativity and overlap to other artistic fields
- get to know characteristic features of movement, analyse each separated phases of movement and their connection to physical and physiological possibilities of human body - Syllabus
- - From the 1st to the 4th term students practically focus on the José Limón dance technique including elementary elements and exercises for beginner as well as advanced and professional dancers: succession, fall and recover, gravity, bounce, recovery and rebound, suspension, swings, opposition, turning, spiral. Students concentrate to mastering of each element and movement emphasizing coordination and developing turning technique.
- - The next two semesters are devoted to practical familiarization with elements and special terminology of Jazz Dance including: warm up, knee bend, brush, contraction, extension, jazz adagio, flick, kick, isolations, ripple, jazz turning, jazz walk, jumps, polyrhythmic exercises and others.
- - In the following 3 semesters students work with the Martha Graham dance technique. Lessons are focused on understanding basis of technique, elaboration of particular elements and movements based on breathing up (release) and breathing out (contraction). Students handle with all theoretical and methodical aspects of this technique.
- - In the last semester students practically focus on mastering of difficult technical movements, exercises and combinations, especially at the centre and in space. They pay attention to preparation to perform greater dancing forms.
