How long do the Opera Directing studies take at JAMU?
It is a five-year master’s degree programme. If graduates of bachelor’s degree programmes from other schools are interested in studying this programme, they can apply for the entrance examination, take the bridging examination and, after successfully passing both of them, advance directly to the fourth year of studies at JAMU.
What is the emphasis of teaching in this programme?
The teaching at the FoM JAMU is unique because the students have the opportunity to prepare productions in the Devítka Studio and in the Chamber Opera, which has its own theatre hall in the Theatre on Orlí Street (JAMU Musical and Dramatic Laboratory) and is fully equipped with the latest theatre technologies. This allows us to direct opera titles of the world repertoire with live orchestra accompaniment. Thanks to the faculty’s co-operation with the National Theatre Brno, students also have the opportunity to participate as assistant directors in the preparation of opera productions.
What can students use in their lessons?
In teaching at Faculty of Music JAMU, the university offers state-of-the-art equipment suitable for both demonstrative teaching and experimentation, including a school theatre and its own recording studios.
