Course objectives
The professional readiness course will enable future graduates to orient themselves in the job market, in the professional environment of cultural institutions, non-profit organizations, or in the pursuit of freelance work. The aim of the course is to provide students with economic context and practical skills in the areas of law, taxes, business, promotion, marketing, and management, which they will encounter in their professional and personal lives. The course also aims to help students understand how to work with managers, producers, and agents. The creation of this new course and the modification of its content and teaching methods were supported by project CZ.02.2.69/0.0/0.0/16_015/0002245, Improving the Quality of Education at JAMU.
Learning outcomes
For Acting:

Knowledge:

The student has knowledge of:
- taxation, business fundamentals, contractual relationships,
- the fundamentals of copyright and civil law,
- occupational health and safety principles,
- tax records,
- self-promotion,
- self-management, time management, and communication.

Skills:

The student is able to:
- start a business, start as a freelance artist,
- distinguish between types of contracts (employment contract, DPP and DPČ, license agreement, contract for work), - work with tax documents, - process tax records, compile a cash journal, - prepare personal income tax returns, - prepare their portfolio and CV, - compile an annual work plan, - set a price for their work,

Competencies:

The student is able to:
- critically and independently study key and supplementary materials and sources related to the topics covered,
- independently complete tasks assigned by teachers during the course,
- search for other relevant materials and sources related to the topics covered.

Knowledge:

The student has the knowledge:
- in the field of taxation, business fundamentals, contractual relations,
- from the foundations of copyright and civil law,
- Tax Evidence and Accounting Basics,
- from public and private finance,
- Promotion,
- from the area of ​​self-management, planning and time management.

Skills:

The student can: - establish a trade,
- Work with tax documents,
- process tax records, compile a cash journal,
- process the tax return for personal income tax,
- process your portfolio and CV,
- draw up an annual work plan,
- set a price for your work,
- Create a simple business plan using Lean Canvas,
- can establish a company (s. r.) and a non-profit organization (registered partnership),
- Process a grant application and charge a grant.

Competencies:

The student is able to:
- Critically and independently study key and complementary materials and sources on the topics covered,
- To independently process tasks assigned by the teacher during the course,
- Search for other relevant materials and sources related to topics discussed.

  • 1. How to work as a freelancer (sole proprietorship, freelance work versus employment) 2. How to start a freelance business, how to set up a sole proprietorship 3. Tax issues, social security, and health insurance 4. Working abroad
  • 5. Agreements on work performed outside of employment, license agreements, contracts for work
  • 6. Value added tax, artists as taxpayers or non-taxpayers (basics of the meaning of tax, rates)
  • 7. Basics of tax records, invoices, orders
  • 8. Personal income tax returns
  • 9. Economic context of everyday decisions in life or practice (work income vs. personal expenses)
  • 10. How much should I charge for my work, or setting your own prices
  • 11. Public funding, grants, subsidies, projects (basics)
  • 12. Promoting your own work and networking in digital marketing, CV, portfolio
  • 13. Copyright, representation of artists
  • 14. Health and safety in acting
  • 15. Self-management (work-life balance), creating a one-year work plan
  • 16. Soft skills (how to handle casting, essentials of acting portrait photography, what a showreel should look like, communication with an agent, agency)
