Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce the basic categories of thinking about directing and dramaturgy within the European drama tradition. First, attention is paid to drama as a distinct literary genre and to the history of directing and dramaturgy as a relation of these disciplines to dramatic literature. Subsequently, the essential analytical categories for drama (conflict, situation, plot, synopsis, chronotope) will be discussed, and the course will conclude with reflections on the formulation of a directorial-dramaturgical concept and its realization in the course of the creation of a staging form. The creation of the new course, the modification of the content or teaching methods of the course was supported by the project CZ.02.2.69/0.0/0.0/16_015/0002245 Increasing the quality of education at JAMU
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to - orient themselves in the basic analytical categories of drama and theatre production (situation, conflict, motivation, action, plot, storyline) - describe the basic features of the history of European theatre and drama, the changes in the role of drama in theatre and the reasons for the establishment of dramaturgy and directing as distinctive functions of theatre production - understand the structural concept of theatrical production - to think of a theatrical work as a conscious choice from a catalogue of solutions offered to certain problems, seeking to produce certain specific effects - apply this thinking in the analysis of a specific production.
