Prerequisites
Successful completion of the first year of bachelor study programme. Succesful completion of courses: Stage management, Project management, Introduction to Cultural Policy, Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Law 1 and Law 2.

Course objectives
To acquaint students with the basics of management, the sense of managerial work and the roles played by managers in artistic institutions or artistic project teams. The goal is to go from a specific (self-management, family or a group management) to a systemic management concept (management in institutions and project management within institutions). Emphasis is placed on management in both semesters to prepare students for lessons of leadership in the next year.
The aim of this course is not to memorize a structured system of management theory but to apply selected principles and procedures that are useful for the theatrical production work.
Through the compulsory reading and reviews students are able to recognize gradually the difference between management and leadership and are learning to understand that the future leadership position is linked to the setting of inner environment of a leader, his/her ability to take responsibility and make the right decision at the right time.
Learning outcomes
Completing this semester the graduate is able: - to describe managerial continuous and sequential functions (system theory of management) and their importance for their own practical production activities.
- to describe and explore importance of the managerial roles and to to understand the situation in which the particular role is appropriate,
- to answers the question whether management is practice or science and whether management is science or art.
- to plan and distinguish different types of plans; to understand difference between project and strategy, target and goal and analytical tools needed for planning; to know chosen examples of plans of different cultural institutions that will be able to analyse critically; to understand the concept of management by objectives,
- to understand the process of decision making (continuous managerial function) and the importance of this process for all sequential roles; to understand the process of organizing and to recognize different types of organizational structures of different art organizations,
- distinguish management and leadership and understand the coherence of these two sides of one coins.
- explain the linkage of organizing and principle of delegation.
- to apply gradually the acquired knowledge to school artistic practical projects.

Teaching methods
Form of teaching: 1 hour of lecture, 1 hour of seminar (seminar and lecture part are interconnected according to the strategy of a specific two-hour course)
Teaching methods: lecture, work with text, work with painting, discussion methods, individual work of students, case study.
Assessment methods
Assessment is based on the oral exam. To pass the exam, the student must meet 80 % of attendance at the lectures, the absence must be excused via e-mail.
Before passing an exam student must porcess two reviews of publications (Owen, J. : How to manage and Clare, Rebecca a Tim PHILLIPS: Game of Thrones on Business.)
The oral exam is without preparation and student draws two questions.
The solving of partial assignments for the seminar part of the course is a matter of course.
