Cíle předmětu
The goal of this course is for the students to achieve basic competence in Spanish corresponding to European Common Framework level A1 or A1+. By the end of the second semester, students will be expected to be able to read basic Spanish, write and speak enough Spanish to express their wishes and opinions in everyday situations, and to be able to understand a native speaker speaking slowly concerning everyday situations. Students will be competent in expressing themselves regarding the past, present, and future.

Osnova
  • The course will cover all categories of linguistic skills, i.e. basic reading, writing, listening, and speaking. Cultural information needed for basic communication in Spanish for both travel and professional contact with Spaniards will also be a part of the course. This course assumes zero knowledge of Spanish for the students registered in it, and thus will start with the rudiments of the Spanish language. Grammar covered will include the nominal system, inflection of adjectives, numbers both cardinal and ordinal, comparison, and verbs in at least one tense for speaking in each of the basic time frames, i.e. past, present and future. Vocabulary will include, but will not necessarily be limited to: countries, languages and nationalities, academic subjects, leisure activities, professions, months and seasons, weather, family, appearance and character, film, physical environment, domestic environment, food, time phrases. By the end of the second semester students will have acquired enough competence in Spanish to begin to take advantage of the internet in Spanish, and will become familiar with basic IT terminology in Spanish.

The course lasts one entire academic year and consists of 11x90 minutes in the first semester and 14x90 minutes in the second semester, less state holidays. The course will essentially follow the scheme laid out in Aventura 1, which consists of 10 units plus 2 revision units. Five units will be covered in the first semester, and five in the second semester, meaning that approximately 2 weeks will be devoted to each unit, with most of the grammar and vocabulary drills done at home by each student.
Literatura

Výukové metody
Regular instruction of the Spanish language 1x90 minutes per week x 25 weeks. Methods used will include the grammar-translation method, with a gradual transition to the communicative method as the students gain competence in listening and speaking. Due to time constraints, drill will take place in homework assignments, and students should expect at least 45 to 60 minutes of homework per week in order to maintain the progress necessary to master basic Spanish in 25 weeks of instruction. Role-plays will be used sparingly to solidify students' mastery of the language needed for basic everyday situations.
Metody hodnocení
Students must pass both end-of-semester tests with at least a 60% score. 70% attendance is also required unless otherwise arranged with the instructor.
