Course objectives
The goal of the subject is to develop dance technique, musicality and sense of dance style of certain folk dance areas. The practice is complemented with theoretical exposition consisting of dance steps, connections, dances and their stage stylizations from regions of Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia.
In the end of the course students will be able to depict and distinguish certain movements and dances; to define their characteristics based on geographical region; to operate with terminology, temporal division of movements, dynamics, rhythm, integrity; to understand the logic of the content and be able to teach it.
Syllabus
  • - Introduction to folk dance, basic steps and modes of Czech folk dances, basic pair dance steps; circle dance, children dance games.
  • - Basic forms of spinning and figure dance, creation of dance units.
  • - Complex barre and independent excercises; various versions of Czech, Moravian and Slovakian dances.
  • - More complicated combinations and figurations in pair and trinities; style peculiarity of Moravian Wallachia, Lachia, Southern Bohemia, Haná, Horehroní.
  • - Perfection of the dance technique, improvement of coordination.
  • - Perfection of dance technique in pair, style peculiarity of Podkrkonoší, western and eastern Slovakia, Liptov, Goralsk region. Completion of dance material, perfection of interpretation of folk dances, analysis of authentic and stylized musical accompaniment.
  • - Creation of dance stylization based on perceived knowledge and skills.
