Successful graduation of the course Sound Technology and Fundamentals of Scenic Sound, parallel learning Sound – Digital Audio System I.
Course Enrolment Limitations
The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
Introducing the student to the technological chain and workflow of a sound engineer in a dubbing studio. Deepening the student's ability to work in a creative team in the production of the Czech dubbing.
The student will acquire practical and theoretical, technical knowledge and skills to create a Czech version of a foreign-language audiovisual piece.
The student will use their knowledge and skills in their future employment as a studio sound engineer or in the private sector.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
- orient yourself in the terminology of the dubbing profession;
- operate the Avid Pro Tools software at a basic level;
- prepare audio-visual materials before the creation of the Czech version;
- respond to stressful situations that may arise during dubbing creation;
- to be part of the creative team during creation;
- carry out subsequent finalization (mix) of the Czech dialogue track and create a full-fledged audiovisual work.
Syllabus
  • Theory of dubbing production: history in our country and in the world, technological development, current situation in the Czech dubbing profession.
  • Theory of dubbing production: basic terms (international track, original track, dialogue track), work process in creating the Czech version.
  • Acoustic-electric transducers: types, Polar Patterns, placement options, other features and applications.
  • Electroacoustic transducers: types, Polar Patterns, placement options, other features and applications.
  • EQs, compressors, effects processors.
  • AD/DA Converters and their control software.
  • Audiovisual media basic terms.
  • Introduction to Avid Pro Tools: history, basic features.
  • Introduction to Avid Pro Tools: setting up your own project, advanced features.
  • Introduction to Avid Pro Tools software: exporting audio tracks to audio files, importing video tracks.

Teaching methods
Teaching is in the form of practical exercises. It includes cooperation with an actor, director, dramaturge and an editor of Czech dialogues. Students realize the work of a studio sound engineer by real dubbing.
Assessment methods
Credits are gained on the basis of attendance (at least 80% attendance) and completion of partial assignments given by the teacher.
